Emotional farewell: Pedro retires after a glittering era

The 39‑year‑old Spanish Ex‑Barça‑Star Pedro announced in an emotional video on social media that he is ending his professional career. In the clip he explains that he feels it is time for a new chapter in life, and thanks football for the happiness it has brought him.

Video shows emotional retrospect

In the farewell video Pedro looks back over Camp Nou with a sentimental gaze, where he trained as a youngster in the youth academy of FC Barcelona. On the screen flicker team photos from his youth, followed by the most important goals and moments in the jerseys of the Blaugrana, the Spanish national team, FC Chelsea and the two great clubs of Rome.

"I feel that it is time. The time to take a step forward and start a new chapter in life," writes Pedro in the accompanying text. He adds: "I go with pride because I have lived my dream and because all the people by my side were there who helped me realise it. Thank you, football, for making me so happy."

Last stop: Lazio Rome

Pedro's last club was Lazio Rome. His contract expired in the summer, after which he remained unattached – and that will remain so, as he emphasises in the video.

International achievements

Pedro was part of Spain's golden generation that won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship. In total he earned 65 caps and scored 17 goals, before announcing his retirement from the national team in 2017.

One moment he will never forget was winning the first Champions‑League with FC Barcelona, a triumph he later repeated twice.

Achievements at Chelsea

After his time in Barcelona, Pedro moved to FC Chelsea, where he won the Premier League in 2017, the English Cup in 2018 and the Europa‑League in 2019.

Although he was rarely in the spotlight, he was always regarded as an immensely important and dangerous attacking player who devoted himself to serving his teammates.

Pedro emphasises that he remained loyal to each of the three clubs for at least five years, a sign of his consistency in an era of frequently changing players.

With the farewell video he closes a chapter that was marked by numerous titles and unforgettable moments, and looks forward to the next step in his life.
