Pedro, 39, ends his career after Lazio

International striker Pedro, 2010 World Cup champion with Spain, announced on Wednesday on his social network that he is retiring at 39. Unattached since his departure from Lazio Rome last June, he feels the time has come to turn the page.

Honours and titles

In his trophy cabinet, Pedro displays the 2010 World Cup title and the 2012 European Championship title won with La Roja, where he amassed 65 caps and 17 goals. He has five Spanish league titles, three Champions League titles, one Europa League, and an English title.

He played nearly 700 matches for FC Barcelona (2008‑2025), Chelsea (2015‑2020), AS Rome (2020‑2021) and Lazio Rome (2021‑2026). These clubs marked the different phases of his career.

“I feel that this is the moment. The moment to take a step forward and start a new chapter in my life,” Pedro said in his message. He thus confirmed his desire to move on to a new stage.

Since his departure from Lazio Rome last June, he had been without a club and announced on Wednesday on Instagram his retirement at 39. This decision brings an end to a career that lasted almost two decades.

On his Instagram account, he shared the decision, and supporters praised him. The reactions highlighted his impact on European football.

With La Roja, he accumulated 65 caps, 17 goals, a 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. He started in the final of the 2010 World Cup, where Spain won its first world title.
