Jesus Owono blocks networks after insults over the death of Jesús de Miguel

FC Andorra's goalkeeper, Jesús Owono, has decided to block comments on his social media after receiving an avalanche of insults, following the death this morning of forward Jesús de Miguel, whose death has shocked the football world.
All expressions of condolences and sorrow were directed to Tenerife. According to witnesses, Owono collided with De Miguel in a contest for a ball, and the impact caused the cardiac arrest that cost him his life.
Jesús Owono closed his accounts after what happened last night, being bombarded by the deluge of insults. At the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, while De Miguel remained unconscious and in cardiac arrest, the fans sang “killer, killer.”
Journalist Iván Álvarez of Diari de Andorra explained on Cadena Cope last night that the Guinean‑Ecuadorian was devastated, that he was seen crying and praying in the locker room, and that he hoped to apologise privately to the family before issuing a public statement. Owono kept track of the footballer’s condition through Andorra’s delegate and medical services, and this morning received the tragic news.
The club issued its first statement saying: “With a broken heart and deep sadness, we want to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates and friends, and to Tenerife.” The club expressed its condolences in its first statement.

Storm of insults on social media
On social media, extremely harsh comments are already appearing, some even labeling Owono as “killer”. This reaction stems from the shock and grief over De Miguel’s death, although it risks crossing the line between insult and harassment.
The goalkeeper’s actions were described as reckless and had dramatic consequences. It is understandable that an episode of such magnitude generates anger and disbelief, but the gap between a game error and a deliberate intent is vast.
Call for respect and reflection
No player steps onto the field with the intention of causing a tragedy. In the coming hours, Owono will probably revisit the pain, guilt, and images of the collision.

The possible disciplinary or legal sanctions that may apply are still to be determined. Football must remember Jesús de Miguel, support his family and Tenerife, and avoid turning the tragedy into a hunt for the culprit, especially on social media.
The tragedy requires respect, not more hatred, both for the one who is no longer here and for the one who will have to live with those fatal seconds. Respect is essential for the future coexistence of football.
