Malacia (27) seeks new life at FC Cincinnati after United debut
Tyrell Malacia (27), former left‑back of Manchester United, is without a club and is now training as a trialist at FC Cincinnati in the United States, hoping to revive his career. His contract with United ended at the end of June and was not renewed.
Early promise at Manchester United
Manchester United bought Malacia in 2022 for around fifteen million euros from Feyenoord, where he completed the entire youth academy. In his first season he made 39 official appearances for The Red Devils. Before that move he played 136 official matches for Feyenoord and earned nine international caps for the Netherlands.
His promise, however, was hampered by a serious knee injury that kept him out of action for roughly five hundred days. After a failed operation he returned only sporadically under Michael Carrick and did not receive a contract extension. Two seasons ago he played on loan at PSV, but was unable to settle thereafter.
New opportunity at FC Cincinnati
After leaving Manchester United, Malacia travelled 6,175 kilometres to the United States, where he joined FC Cincinnati as a trialist. American journalist Laura Pfahler shared footage of the 27‑year‑old left‑back on the training ground. There is no contract yet, but he hopes to revive his career.
FC Cincinnati, the former club of coach Ron Jans, recently dismissed the coach after he sang in the locker room a song that contained an n‑word. The club now offers Malacia the chance to prove himself, despite the recent turmoil.
The 27‑year‑old Dutchman has so far earned nine caps for the national team. His career includes 39 official matches for Manchester United, 136 for Feyenoord and a short spell at PSV. Despite the setbacks, he remains one of the few Dutch left‑backs with Premier League experience.
The contrast between a promising start at a top club and a current trial period in the MLS highlights how injuries can turn a career around. Malacia’s presence in Cincinnati shows that he is still willing to fight for a fresh start.
