CD Tenerife mourns, striker Jesus de Miguel dies after accident

Jesus de Miguel, a 30‑year‑old striker for Spanish second‑division side CD Tenerife, died on Tuesday morning from the effects of a violent collision.

The club shared the shocking news with deep sorrow and a lump in the throat.

In its statement, the club wrote that there are no comforting words and nothing can ease the immeasurable grief.

The Spaniard died at 8 a.m. at the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

The club said it stands beside the grieving family and the whole island of Tenerife.

The entire Spanish football community was shocked, with champion clubs FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid expressing their condolences.

Accident and medical course

On Monday, de Miguel collided in the 7th minute of stoppage time against FC Andorra during a counter‑attack just behind the halfway line with opposing goalkeeper Jesus Owono.

According to Spanish media, he suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance on the way to the hospital and was revived by paramedics.

Owono received a red card and the match was immediately abandoned by the teammates in tears.

In the evening, CD Tenerife reported that Miguel, despite serious head and chest injuries, was initially in stable condition but had deteriorated overnight.

The club asked for the utmost respect for the family's privacy during this difficult time.
