Jose Mourinho plans Real Madrid squad overhaul
Real Madrid are preparing a squad overhaul under manager Jose Mourinho. Mourinho has asked for a significant say in the club's summer transfer business.
Mourinho has suggested signing West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes and Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol. An alternative to Gvardiol is Riccardo Calafiori, while Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate are already on track to arrive.
Agent Jorge Mendes, Mourinho, Head Scout Juni Calafat and Real Madrid General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez met at a restaurant. The meeting focused on both potential arrivals and player exits.
Mourinho is set to tell Eduardo Camavinga, Franco Mastantuono, Brahim Diaz, Fran Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia that they are not in his plans for the coming season. Mastantuono is expected to leave on loan to continue his development.
Camavinga and Garcia could benefit from more game time elsewhere. Diaz and Gonzalo may seek another chance after limited contributions.
The Morocco international has been a useful asset for Real Madrid but operates best on the left side. Gonzalo's exit is likely linked to the return of Endrick Felipe from his loan spell.
