Marseille refuses Roma discount on Greenwood €55m price

Mason Greenwood remains AS Roma’s primary target as Olympique de Marseille insists on a firm €55 million price tag, refusing any discount. The French club must raise roughly €100 million by 30 June to balance its books after a UEFA fine and a DNCG financial audit.

Marseille’s financial situation is described as delicate, with the club required to generate about €100 million before the end of June. The need arises despite a UEFA sanction and ongoing investigations by the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog.

Greenwood is identified as the most valuable player in Marseille’s current squad. Selling him could free up cash and provide some breathing room for the club’s finances.

The Olympique de Marseille board has kept the asking price unchanged at €50 million plus €5 million in performance‑related bonuses. Roma is currently unable to meet that amount without first completing other player sales.

A club source told L’Équipe, “Many think we’ll sell Greenwood off because we’re forced to sell. But they’re wrong. There are too many symbolic and financial aspects at stake in this deal.” The statement underscores Marseille’s unwillingness to lower the fee.

With the price firm and no discount on the table, Roma must explore alternative options to bolster their attack. Marseille’s stance signals that any future transfer will hinge on meeting the full €55 million valuation.
