Nagelsmann confirms Rudiger fit for Ecuador start

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann announced that Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is fit enough to start the World Cup match against Ecuador, confirming his knee is not causing any trouble. Germany have already secured the top spot in their group, and the coach sees the selection as a chance to give the veteran rhythm before the knockout phase. The tournament began with Jonathan Tah and Nico Schlotterbeck forming Germany’s preferred central defensive partnership. Rudiger remained on the bench despite his extensive experience at the highest level. Schlotterbeck’s injury forced Nagelsmann to reshuffle the defence, opening the door for Rudiger to reclaim a starting role. Consequently, Rudiger will line up against Ecuador in the final group‑stage fixture. Nagelsmann told reporters, “His knee isn’t bothering him at all, he feels great physically and I think he played very well when he came on.” He added, “I expect the same tomorrow,” as reported by Mundo Deportivo. Rudiger’s season with Real Madrid has been injury‑disrupted, making each minute on the pitch increasingly valuable. The coach later praised his development, saying, “He has made great progress in terms of what we expected of him. He has made a contribution whenever he’s come on and, as I say, he’s in great physical shape.” Germany have already guaranteed first place in the group, yet Nagelsmann believes a full match will still benefit the team before the knockout rounds. With expected squad rotation, Rudiger’s inclusion is described as a win‑win for both the national side and Real Madrid.
