Rick Adjei stays at Go Ahead Eagles; Dordrecht seek coach
Rick Adjei will not take over as head coach of FC Dordrecht after Dirk Kuijt left for Fenerbahçe, where he will serve as Ismail Kartal’s assistant; instead Go Ahead Eagles have kept Adjei as Joseph Oosting’s assistant and extended his deal to summer 2028.
On Monday, reported that Adjei was the "top candidate" to replace Kuijt at FC Dordrecht. The club had been preparing for a possible transition.
Kuijt had recently signed a new contract with FC Dordrecht, a club competing in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Despite the extension, he is moving to Turkey.
At Fenerbahçe, Kuijt will work as the assistant to head coach Ismail Kartal. The Turkish side confirmed his appointment.
Go Ahead Eagles refused to release the assistant coach of Joseph Oosting, insisting that Adjei possesses "much potential". They also announced his contract now runs until the summer of 2028.
Because Adjei remains with the Eagles, FC Dordrecht must continue its search for a new head coach. The club will evaluate other internal or external candidates.
FC Dordrecht finished the season in tenth place in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, narrowly missing a play‑offs spot. Their league position underscores the urgency of finding a replacement.
FC Dordrecht must now turn to other candidates in its quest for a new head coach.
