Uruguay draws 1-1 with Saudi Arabia in World Cup debut
Uruguay national team held Saudi Arabia to a 1-1 draw in its 2026 World Cup debut on Monday (15). Abdulelah Al-Amri gave the Green Falcons the lead late in the first half. Maximiliano Araújo equalised for La Celeste in the second half.
Uruguay struggled to create clear chances but increased pressure in the final minutes. Saudi Arabia defended the result, with goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais kept very busy.
Both sides sit in Group H alongside Spain and Cape Verde, who also drew on Monday. South American representatives have yet to win a match, recording two draws and two losses so far.
Argentina will open its title defence on Tuesday (16) against Algeria. Colombia will conclude South America’s group‑stage participation on Wednesday (17) versus Uzbekistan.
